What is dicipline? Discipline means to instruct a person to follow a particular code of conduct or order. In the field of child development, discipline refers to methods of modeling character and of teaching self-control and acceptable behavior (wikipedia). If the child break some rule do not punish him with physical violence. Discipline does not same with violence.
What is the age limit for the application of discipline? 2.5 years is the right time to start teaching discipline to children. Does my child understand when I apply a punishment to him? Of course, after you punish a child give the reasons why you punish them.
How do I give the right punishment to the child? You can punish your child with the steps below:
- Punish your child to sit on a chair for several minutes.
- Do not talk to your child. You just raise your child and sit on a chair which you have prepared.
- If your child fell from the seat, lift your child and sit on the chair again. Do it until your child according to sit on a chair and they passed the time limit that you specify.
- After the punishment is completed toward your child and tell he/she about what mistakes that they have done.
- Tell your child to say sorry to you.
- Tell he/she that you love him and give him a kiss of affection.
Never talk when punishing your child because it will only add to his/her annoyance. If your child is still down do not tell them to sit down but lift you and your child sit on a chair. For younger children do not apply the penalty for too long.
Hopefully the above tips can increase your child's understanding of the meaning of discipline. No need to punish the child with violence because it would only add annoyance feelings to your child.
